In the summer of 2000, proclaimed the Jubilee Year by Pope John Paul II, Annie Duffin and Steven Vining (who now are Mr. and Mrs. Vining with five children) heard a life-changing talk on the Theology of the Body at St. Tomas Aquinas Parish in Dallas, Texas. Taken aback by the new, breathtaking view of the human person, they invited their friend Monic Ashour to join them in studying this message of hope by Pope John Paul II. Within six months, a study group on the Theology of the Body was formed and steadily grew to over twenty-five people led by Annie and Monica—both who possess a Master’s Degree in Theology from the University of Dallas. This grassroots group immersed themselves in this message for over a year.

In November of 2001, nine core members felt called by the Holy Spirit to found a  non-prorofit group and met for many strategic planning meetings. On Saturday, December 8, 2001 The Feast of the Immaculate Conception— The Theology of the Body   Evangelization Team was formed. TOBET was the first non-profit in the United States  created for the sole purpose of spreading the Gospel through the lens of Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body.
